Liaison to INCOSE
United States
Janet Singer is a leader in joint efforts by ISSS and the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) to ‘co-mature’ systems science and systems engineering as disciplines that share a common systems thinking and systems appreciation core. She is a second-generation member of ISSS. Her father, Roger F. Willis, was a mathematician who headed the first systems research group at Stanford Research Institute. For the past three decades she has worked to build on her father’s insights into the strengths and limitations of mathematical modeling of systems with ideas from the broad range of fields needed to address the foundational challenges of the General Systems project. As part of this, she has pursued a broad range of studies including graduate work in mathematics and engineering as well as social science, humanities, and law. She is the current ISSS liaison to INCOSE, a former ISSS Vice President for Research and Publications, and editor of the Part 2: Foundations in the INCOSE Guide to the Systems Engineering Body of Knowledge (SEBoK).
